Our Knowledge Base covers a wide variety of technical topics, from the basic to the complex.
Can a field calculate its own data based on data in other fields?
Yes. QuickBase supports formula fields. The value of a formula field in a particular record is calculated from the value of other fields in the record.
There are many types of formulas. A numeric formula results in a numeric value and uses numeric operations and functions. You can also create text formulas, check box formulas, date formulas, and URL formulas.
Example 1: This numeric formula creates a "diameter" field that calculates its value as:
Note: The square brackets are used to specify that the value of the field named "radius" should be used.
Example 2: This numeric formula calculates the number of weeks remaining until something is due:
ToWeeks([Date Due] - Today())
Example 3: This text formula creates a "full name" field:
[First Name] & " " & [Last Name]
Example 4: This text formula displays a message about overdue status:
If(ToWeeks([Date Due] - Today()) < 0, "Overdue", "Okay")
