Why don't my fields, whose labels include a hyphen or quote character, display properly in my Exact Forms?
The field name:
~New IPAD3 - Asset Tag#~
is actually output by MS Word as:
~New IPAD3 – Asset Tag#~
MS Word has a feature called AutoCorrect that does the following:
When you type a space and one or two hyphens between text, Microsoft Word automatically inserts an en dash ( – ). If you type two hyphens and do not include a space before the hyphens, then an em dash ( — ) is created.
Another such feature is called "Replace as you type straight quotes with smart quotes. It replaces
"
with
“
You can stop this behaviour as follows:
Within MS Word, to turn on or off automatic formatting, on the Tools menu, click AutoCorrect Options, and then click the AutoFormat As You Type tab. Clear the "Hyphen with dash" option and the "straight quotes with smart quotes" option.
