It’s been eight months since I joined the QuickBase team as General Manager and addressed you as a newbie. I’m proud of this team and what we’ve accomplished in half a year. We’ve issued seven product releases focused on improving our customers’ experience with QuickBase and made major investments towards delivering high availability. I am also continuously delighted by our customers’ ability to innovate and find new ways to apply QuickBase in their organizations. It’s been quite a journey.
In the spirit of the New Year, I want to take this opportunity to reflect on some highlights from my first eight months. Here are some of the things that made my first eight months special and will continue to make QuickBase a powerful solution for our customers:
Candid feedback from our customers
We are lucky to have customers that voice their passions about QuickBase and how we’re performing as an organization. This feedback helps us make QuickBase a better solution for our customers and drives innovation. Keep it coming! The best places to connect with us and our users are the QuickBase Blog, the Community Forum, Twitter, Facebook and Support.
Passionate and committed team
The QuickBase team has accomplished major milestones since I joined the team in July. In addition to offering significant product improvements, we delivered major improvements in high availability. The team was particularly excited about bringing some of our customers’ most requested features to life, including simplifying reporting and app creation. These achievements wouldn’t have been possible without a team that’s passionate about delighting our customers. For instance, engineers happily manned support calls when our support team needed backup just because it was the right thing to do and they like learning from our customers.
Corporate commitment to High Availability
Achievements towards our high availability goal were also made possible by Intuit’s commitment to supporting QuickBase in that journey. Our CEO, CIO, CTO all had a do-what-is-required mindset in support of the business and meeting our customers needs. Intuit demonstrated its commitment at a recent Leadership Conference when 300 of our top leaders gathered to discuss our strategy and the single biggest topic was Intuit’s commitment to high availability.
Partners that make our customers successful
Whether you are looking for help identifying the right business process for your team, developing the right custom QuickBase application, exploring non-native integrations, or training for your entire end-user community – our partners are proven in delivering customer satisfaction and are some of the most talented QuickBase experts around. I’m so grateful to have them on our side and helping our customers succeed. To request a partner, fill out this form.
Our new hires (and those to come)
I’m not the only newbie in town! Since I began, we’ve welcomed many highly accomplished individuals to the Product Development, Quality Assurance, Marketing, and Sales teams. We’re also looking to expand in 2011 with positions open in Operations, Engineering, Sales, Marketing and Customer Support. If you’re interested in being a part of this awesome team check out more information here and tell us what you’re passionate about.
Kirk’s trainings and hands-on guidance in building my first more complex app
My personal discovery of QuickBase has been a rewarding journey. I wanted to experience QuickBase like our customers do; so I identified a really inefficient process managing volunteers at a school and enlisted Kirk Trachy, Sales Engineer of webinar fame, to help me create an application to simplify and improve the experience by using QuickBase. On a more personal note, here are some of the things that I couldn’t live without:
QuickBase on my iPad and iPhone
QuickBase iPad & iPhone compatibility allow me to stay on top of critical reports when I’m not in the office. It’s great for any mobile QuickBase user; especially for those of you who need to stay informed with real-time information or take action from anywhere.
Good video conferencing equipment
More and more of us are working with and managing remote teams; I’ve discovered video can be your best friend in doing this well.
As you may know, my family is in the Bay Area and QuickBase is based in Waltham, MA. I am infinitely grateful to San Francisco and Boston airports for shuttling me across the country twice a week in a (mostly) timely fashion which has allowed me to spend time with both my QuickBase and real-life families. If anyone needs tips on the fastest path through United security at Logan International, let me know!
Our video conferencing equipment allows me to have a presence at all times, even when I’m not physically in the Waltham office. In addition to having audio and video in each meeting room, my team has now dubbed the video-equipped PC in my office “Virtual Allison” (or VAL). Anytime someone wants to have a face-to-face while I’m working from California, they can simply drop by my office in Waltham, and voila I’m there on the screen! It’s also a great way to accidently scare the cleaning crew when the computer screen suddenly starts talking.
These different ways of connecting have been invaluable in building a strong relationship with the QuickBase team.
I’m looking forward to a tremendous 2011 with the QuickBase team, our partners and our customers! Stay tuned for more thoughts and updates from me and the Team. And before you find yourselves immersed in the opportunities and challenges of 2011, I ask you – employees, customers, partners and casual visitors alike – to reflect on 2010 and share some of your own highlights with QuickBase and your own businesses by commenting on this blog post.Posted in Company News
